For the tenth consecutive month in July 2022, United Microelectronics (UMC), a pure-play foundry, had its sales reach a record high.
UMC announced sales of NT$24.83 billion ($828 million) for the month of July. Revenue increased by 37.75% year over year to NT$160.31 billion during the first seven months of 2022.
During an earnings conference call in late July, UMC co-president Jason Wang stated that the business would continue to operate its fabrication facilities at full capacity utilization in the third quarter. According to Wang, the foundry will be able to handle the cyclical macro environment with the aid of UMC’s expertise in unique and specialized process technologies and strong partnerships with top clients.
In the third quarter, UMC anticipates posting flat sequential gains in both unit shipments and ASPs.
In the first half of 2022, UMC’s sales increased by 38.2% from the prior year to NT$135.48 billion, while its gross margin increased by 16 points to 45%. The company’s six-month net profit of NT$41.13 billion, or NT$3.35 per share, was a significant 83.9% increase over the same time in 2021.
