According to sources in the industry, Taiwan-based OSAT ASE Technology and its EMS subsidiary Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) are planning to increase their position in the automotive electronics market this year.
By offering backend services for automotive MCUs, ASE Technology has already pierced the supply chain of automotive IC IDMs. Additionally, according to the sources, USI will begin mass producing IGBT and SiC power modules for EV inverters in 2022.
As the EMS has started to set out the assembly and testing of power modules for key worldwide power semiconductor suppliers, USI revealed plans to mass produce IGBT and SiC power modules for EV inverters later this year in early 2022.
According to sources in the industry, other Taiwan-based OSATs have also placed their hopes in the demand from automotive IC IDMs, which they see as a potential source of future growth. IDMs like NXP, STMicroelectronics, and Infineon have all provided their upbeat sales projections for the remainder of 2022.
However, mobile SoC experts and PC processor manufacturers including AMD, Intel, MediaTek, and Qualcomm have expressed pessimism about their business outlooks for the second half of this year, according to the sources.
According to the sources, demand for automotive power and logic chips is expected to remain strong through 2023.
