Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers gets placed on the disabled list after departing the game on Thursday because to lower back pain.

NEW Fox News articles can now be heard on audio! Clayton Kershaw, a pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, was placed on the disabled list on Friday due to a lower back ailment.

Prior to the fifth inning of Thursday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, Kershaw departed the field while warming up. He was heard saying to the trainers, “My back,” just before he exited the game.

Over the past few years, injuries have limited Kershaw, 34. Since the 2015 campaign, he has not made 30 starts.

He has already played in the IL 11 times, all since 2014, and this is his second spell of the year. Back injuries have caused both IL stays.

Despite his injuries, the three-time Cy Young Award winner is maintaining performance levels consistent with earlier years of his illustrious career. He has a 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings, a 2.64 ERA, and a 0.98 WHIP. He has a 2.49 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings throughout the course of his career.

Additionally, this year, he has pitched two perfect games into the eighth inning. The first instance occurred in his season debut, but manager Dave Roberts removed him after the seventh inning owing to a strict pitch count to prevent injuries.

This summer, Kershaw received his eleventh All-Star nod and began the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium. In the mid-summer classic, it was his first starting selection.
